The 8 day ‘Maharashtra Splendor’ tour by the Deccan Odyssey is designed to explore some of the best regions in Maharashtra. Apart from visiting the popular tourist attractions, the train tour is also a wonderful opportunity to witness the varied culture and civilization prevailing in this part of India. Other than Maharashtra, you would be getting up close to the traditional and colonial culture of Goa as well. Day 1

Arrival in Mumbai

On reaching Mumbai, gather at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus. Enjoy a grand and traditional welcome with tikka and garland. Complete all the check-in formalities, hop on-board and then settle in your cabin comfortably. While you enjoy your welcome drink, the train begins its journey for the first destination. Explore the beauty of the luxury train for the rest of the time or enjoy its on-board facilities.

Dinner and overnight stay aboard Deccan Odyssey.

Day 2


Arrive to Nashik on this day. Enjoy your breakfast and then de-board. This city in Maharashtra is religious and is also gaining reputation of being the Wine Capital of the Country.

First proceed for a visit to the scared ghats of River Godavari. Take a long walk here and you can see holy rituals being performed. Experience serene bliss as devotees are seen completing their rituals and take blessings of the river to start their day.

Later, proceed for a tour to Grover Zampa Vineyards. Here you can walk amid vines of Chenin, Chardonnay and Shiraz grapes. The city is a major producer of wines in India. Wine lovers can taste the variety of white, rose, red and sparkling wines with lunch.

Later return to the comforts of Deccan Odyssey. Dinner and overnight stay on-board.

Day 3

Aurangabad (Ellora Caves)

The third day of Maharashtra Splendor Tour is set-out for exploring Aurangabad. Enjoy a lavish breakfast after which you leave for sightseeing. Named after the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, it is an important industrial city in the Indian state of Maharashtra. Explore the numerous tourist attractions such as Bibi-ka-Makbara, Daulatabad Fort and City's 52 gates.

Later, proceed for a visit to the Ellora Caves, one of India's UNESCO World Heritage Site. The caves are around 30 km away from the city, placed on the side of basaltic hill. The Ellora caves can be classified as 12 Buddhist, 17 Hindu and 5 Jain caves. A major attraction of Ellora is the Kailasa temple. The cave shrine dates back to 757-783 CE. As per legends, the structure of the temple represents Mount Kailash, the Abode of Lord Shiva.

Later, get back to the comforts of Deccan Odyssey and savor scrumptious lunch onboard. Enjoy the rural landscapes of Maharashtra as the train chugs towards the next destination. Delight in the luxury amenities of the train. Dinner is served onboard, followed by an overnight stay as the train proceeds for Jalgaon (Ajanta Caves).

Day 4

Ajanta Caves

Today, Deccan Odyssey arrives to the Jalgaon railway station in the morning. Enjoy your breakfast aboard and then get down to head to your next destination, Ajanta Caves. The UNESCO World Heritage Site, Ajanta Caves were carved between the 2nd century BCE to about 480 or 650 CE. These rock-cut caves have sculptures and murals showcasing the life of Lord Buddha. These 30 caves speak much about the craftsmanship of Indian artisans.

Have dinner on-board. Stay overnight at the hotel.

Day 5


On fifth day of your tour, the train takes you to Kolhapur. Enjoy the beautiful landscape of Maharashtra in passing. The city is known for rich cultural, historical and mythical past. After an early lunch on the train, leave for sightseeing.

Start the tour with a stop at the New Palace Museum built in the 19th century palace treasuring the memorials of Kolhapur rulers. Next, proceed to the Town Hall Museum. Later, explore the markets of the city. Kolhapuri Chappals are a popular produce of the city, you should definitely shop for them. Afterwards, attend the performance Lavanya Sandhya, accompanied by tea.

Later visit the Mahalaxmi temple, a 1300-year-old temple dedicated to Goddess Shakti. The temple one of 51 Shakti Peethas in India. Later, attend a fine performance of Mardani Khel, a traditional martial art of India.

Return back to Deccan Odyssey for dinner and night stay.

Day 6


Goa welcomes Deccan Odyssey on the 7th day of the journey. The smallest state of India is a vast treasure of beautiful churches, beaches, nightlife and more. Having been a colony of the Portuguese, the culture is retained in every nook and corner.

Today, after a hearty breakfast, leave for sightseeing. The first stop of the day is Fontainhas, home to some of the well-preserved buildings constructed in Portuguese style. Walk amid history relishing the beauty of red and blue buildings with tiled roof.

The next site to visit it the former capital of the state, Ribandar. Enjoy the ancient churches and the ruins of St. Augustine Tower. Continue to Sahakari Spice Farm for a Goan feast. Traditional feasts in Goa comprise Indian dishes with Portuguese touch, complemented by the popular Goan drink Feni, liquor prepared from cashew.

Post lunch, attend a Goan folk performance, visit a spice plantation and later, visit a Portuguese mansion to get the glimpse of Goan culture and tradition. Return back to Deccan Odyssey. Enjoy a ride through one of the enchanting railway routes in India, Konkan, surrounded by Sahyadri Hill on East and Arabian Sea on west.

Dinner and overnight stay on the luxury train.

Day 7


Today, as you enjoy breakfast, the luxury train Deccan Odyssey arrives to Sindhudurg. A gem of the Maratha dynasty, this place lies just off the coast of Malvan, on a rocky island. De-board to explore the holy town of Sindhudurg.

After lunch on-board, leave again for sightseeing. Return to the train for dinner and overnight.

Day 8

Mumbai departure

This is the last day of the Maharashtra Splendor Journey. As you head back to Mumbai, enjoy some delicious breakfast on-board in the Deccan Odyssey train. On reaching, complete the check-out formalities and then bid farewell to the train.

Child Policy

  • Deccan Odyssey does accommodate children but we ask parents to be mindful of the sophisticated adult atmosphere we endeavor to maintain. One child up to 5 years of age shall be allowed free of cost in the Deluxe Cabin, subject to sharing of double bed with parents. This is subject to availability of double bed at the time of booking.
  • For families, with a child between 6-12 years of age, or, with two children with one child below 5 years and another between 6-12 years, we recommend the Presidential Suite which has a double bed in the bedroom and can be shared with a child below 5 years and a sofa cum bed in the living room which can accommodate the older child. In this case, the child/children will be accommodated free of cost.
  • In case of two children between 6-12 years of age travelling with their parents, you will have to take 2 cabins. The first child pays 25% of the adult fare and the second child will have to pay 50% of the adult fare. One of the parents will have to be present with the child / children in the cabin.
  • Please note that we do not have the facility for interconnecting cabins.
  • All applicable taxes will be charged extra.

Booking Policies

  • You are required to pay 20% of ticket value at the time of booking confirmation.
  • Rest 80% of the ticket value is to be paid 45 days before departure.

Cancellation Policy

  • Any cancellation must be advised immediately by Email and subsequently confirmed by letter to the Central Reservation Division
  • If the cancellation is made 60 days prior to departure, no cancellation charges.
  • 20% of ticket value 45-59 days prior to departure.
  • 50% of ticket value 30-44 days prior to departure.
  • 100% ticket value will be retained, if cancelled 29 days prior to commencement of Train journey.
